ANT’s Green Drive For The UK

$ 1 Needed Donation

The UK is one of the world’s most nature-depleted countries – in the bottom 10% globally and last among the G7 group of nations, new data shows

Natural History Museum analysis reveals that the UK, with just half (53%) of its biodiversity remaining, is experiencing a silent frightening decimation of its natural habitat with an estimated 80% of all lowland heathland already lost since the 1800s.

Globally we witness a troubling trend as the 2014 feature story by The Daily Mail shows

  • At least 571 species of seed-bearing plants have gone extinct around the world in the last two and a half centuries.
  • This number is nearly four times higher than the previous known estimate and more than twice the number of birds, mammals and amphibians that are known to have gone extinct, researchers say.
  • The study estimates that plants are now becoming extinct nearly 500 times faster than the background extinction rate for plants.
  • The geographical pattern of modern plant extinctions resembles that for animals: most plant extinctions occur on islands, in the tropics, and in areas with a Mediterranean climate that are rich in biodiversity.

With this in mind, The African Angel will be collaborating with London’s ANT’s Landscaping and Gardening services for initiatives and projects that promote eco awareness to help improve and sustain the UK’s natural environment
